MH cancelled on me this morning. me thinks he was drowning his sorrows in one too many modelos last night after mexico's loss. but their loss was my gain, since i was already up and ready to go.
lately, i've been dreading my long runs because i've been fearing boredom. though once i start, boredom never really is a problem. most of the time i'm grateful to myself for getting my ass out. or sometimes i'm preoccupied with how tired i am and i'm pushing myself to go on. or my breath literally gets taken away at the sight of deer, rabbits, birds etc.
today's nine was no different. not the best but not the worst, more of a mixed bag of everything in between. i will say this: gu saved my life and flamenco music is fabulous to run to.
i forgot my watch but nike plus says i finished in an hour and 56 minutes. my stomach was giving me a few problems during my run forcing me to walk at times so my time was slow indeed. but considering all my body has been through this week, i'll take it.
not wanting to take any chances with any sort of soreness, i fixed myself an ice bath with 3 nine pound bags of ice. it's crazy but i have this crazy fascination with ice baths. i love 'em. i'm a masochist, i know. sometimes i think i do my long runs just so i can take an ice bath!
now i'm snuggled under the covers with a mug of chicken and stars, a bowl of strawberries, and some kettle baked chips watching pretty in pink. happy thursday, y'all.

I haven't done the ice bath... but I'm kind of wimpy when it comes to anything cold. Although running has made me inch toward cold showers.
With respect to boredom: I head out for long runs with a tinge of dread about precisely that. I get bored with my route, so I've tried to change my path (now I want to move because I'm certain I've covered every square inch of my area). Even so, I think that feeling of impending boredom tears at my motivation. So, I understand. Yet another thing to get past when you're trying to RUN!
But on a separate note, long runs in particular can be bothersome to your stomach because your insides are jostled beyond belief. I've taken an Immodium or two before a run, and then just one afterward. It should keep your insides from reacting to the jostling. If that's your problem...
And flamenco music is great running music! I believe that anything with a "Latin beat" makes for fantastic running. Although not if you're trying to pace yourself!
P.S. If you ever make it to NEOhio, we'll be happy to feed you. We have long winters here, so we have to occupy ourselves somehow.
Omg, I love the pictures and the wedding story. I'm sorry you got so sick, but it sounds like a pretty fun night overall. You are so cute in those pictures!
Anyway, nice job on the long run. I also love ice baths, they help soooo much.
that ice bath sounds dreamy and great job pulling off the miracle long run. I've really come to enjoy them. The pool here is warm, so walking into it is barely refreshing.
the voices in my head, like Jess mentioned, seem to keep my boredom at bay. though, I wouldn't go around looking for those voices since they can be bothersome the rest of the time.
I'm not sure how everyone tolerates Gatorade/GU/Sport Beans so easily. I'd say they only agree with me 10% of the time.
despite not eating meat, I frequently crave a good bowl of chicken noodle soup, I'm jealous of your recovery food selections.
Daaaaannnnng!! That's some crazy ice right there. I don't know how you all can tolerate that.
Super sweet job getting that run in. I don't think I ever really get bored. Maybe I'm just running long enough LOL
You sure some of that ice wasn't to nurse your earlier hangover?! I am glad to hear the run took you almost two hours. I just planned a 9-mile course that should take everyone up to 2 hours to do. This confirms the distance is a good one. Thank you!
Do you rate your runs by the quantity of ice you use in your bath? Great run.
I've never been brave enough for the ice bath: kudos to you for your courage!
nice run! i have goose pimples just reading about all that ice~! brr
dang, that sounds like a comforting end to a day, I gotta try that . . .
Girl you must a huge freezer. Thats pretty cool fixing your own ice bath.
I can't believe you and your ice baths. It's all I can do to put my foot on ice these days.
Way to go on the long run! Sometimes I dread my longer runs, becuase I am fear the boredom. So I try to find new routes to keep things fresh! Ahh, the wonderful ice baths. I love them because I hate them. I haven't had one of those in a long while... But, with training for these half mary's I am going to encounter them sooner or later!
Brrrr! I can barely get myself into a tub of cold water! I can imagine ice in it to boot!
Great run, though! And to curl up with a fun movie and yummy food... a great ending to the day. :)
That is the best movie! Sounds like fun to me!
