even though i am now properly medicated and breathing and sleeping normally, i still didn't want to inundate my sinuses needlessly with pollen. so i ran on the treadmill today. a 7 mile easy run cut down to 5 for a variety of reasons: i just wanted to be done, my hour was up and there were people waiting, and that weird nagging groin/hip pain.
i am really bad when it comes to injury because 1.i freak out 2. i freak out and 3. i freak out. especially with only 2 weeks before my big race. and i am very impatient when it comes to the whole r.i.c.e. shebang. and how in the hell am i supposed to compress THAT area?
it's been maybe a little over a week since this weird pain crept in. it doesn't hurt a lot and even when i run it doesn't hurt enough to make me want to stop. it just feels weird. a little tight. and i feel it everytime i lift my right leg or do anything with my right leg actually. i suspect it happened over the week i tried to be all butch and fanatical with the weights and increased mileage. i could definitely feel it when i did those series of pushups. maybe it's more of a lower abdominal thing.
either way, something doesn't feel right and i'm not exactly quite sure what to do...

With only two weeks left until the race, there's not much left to gain from training. There's also not much left to lose from not training. If it were me, I'd take some unscheduled rest days until that injury settles down a bit. Then, after it settles down, I'd just do shorter, easier workouts until race day. Now is the time to taper. Don't worry if you miss some workouts at this late stage. It's not going to matter much.
Is it your hip flexor?
Whatever it is, I second what Joe recommended and use careful judgement on how hard you push it come race day.
Two weeks before my first Boston Marathon I discovered piriformis syndrome. It's a condition in which the piriformis muscle irritates the sciatic nerve, causing pain in the butt. Basically my butt was broken and I still have a crack in it to prove it!
That's when I was advised that "Less is more". Worked for me. I was able to run pain free in about 8 days after spending time on any aerobic machine that didn't hurt when I used it.
As Jess suggested it could be your hip fexor. While more common in men it could also be a hernia. If the health insurance has kicked back in then you might be wise to at least check in with your doc to see what he/she thinks.
Heal quickly and stay happy!
I haven't run as much as you, but I am pretty sure taking it easy until the race will be quite beneficial. I didn't say not run at all, but just take it a little bit easier!
Is it your butt or your groin area? Either way, I've injured both muscles. Everyone's right. The hardest training is done and it's time to nurse the injury. (And if it's your butt -- you ice by sitting on a bag of frozen corn or peas.)
Ah, it is the groin. I missed that when I first read the post and comments.
I used to stick the ice pack down my pants. Usually, but not always, when no one else was around. This may explain my lack of friends.
One other piece of advice -- be very, very careful about taking too much ibuprofen/sinus meds/etc to ease the ache. NAIDs in particular are hard on the kidneys, especially when exercising strenuously.
sorry I can't give advice about the pain other than don't lift your right leg or do anything with it. Just kidding. Hopefully, you find a solution soon but I'm sure time will heal it too. And don't freak out too much.
Take it easy the next few days. Your legs aren't going to forget how to run and the minor reduction to your training volume ins't going to impact your ability to race.
