i FINALLY got my ass in gear and did some running! wahoo! it had been exactly 2 weeks and i swear i had to dust cobwebs off my running shoes.
i got in an easy 3 miles in under 37 minutes, running anywhere from 4.5 mph to 6.5 mph. there was a chick on the treadmill next to me with waaaaay longer legs than me running at 5.8 mph but i swear my legs were moving much faster than hers. totally not fair.
and whatever injury i had seems to be gone. i felt a little rickety in my quads and knees when i started, but after a mile it was gone. i definitely had legs for a longer run, but alas, i didn't have the time. but it's good to know my legs haven't forgotten how to run. makes me wonder how i would have done had i run the race on sunday!
for now, the trick will be finding a good time to run with my new 6am-2pm work schedule. while i much prefer to run in the morning, i don't see myself getting up at 4 am to run before work. and while running after 8 hours on my feet doesn't sound appealing either, it sounds like the lesser of two evils.
i should be able to fit in one run in the next two days and will attempt a long run on friday, my day off. maybe 10 miles?

Nice job on the run. And goodluck with figuring out a good time to run with your new schedule.

Have a light meal at your desk at 1PM and run as soon as you get home (2:30ish?).

Seeing as you are coming off an injury, I'd resist the temptation to do 10 miles. Stick with short, easy runs for a couple of weeks and spend the extra time on rehab exercises.
maybe run in the evening or alternate that with right after work. take it easy starting out again so you don't injure yourself again.
The treadmill always distorts speed for me too. I always feel like I'm running my little legs off but not getting anywhere.
I always feel like I'm moving my legs faster than other people, maybe it is just 'cause we're short. I'd agree with Joe and delay the 10 mile run a week or so. However, I wouldn't be able run at 2:30 if I ate at 1pm because the food in my stomach would rebel against me. Plus, that is the warmest time of the day too. I'd probably chill out for a little while and run around 4:30/5.
Good for you! I on the other hand chose the AM run (see latest post)...
Glad to hear the injury phase has passed. I'm a morning runner too, and I start at 6 a.m. so it's either rise and run at 5 or call it a day. Just be careful if you run outdoors at that hour. My encounters with crazies is well documented.
As a fellow runt, I feel like I'm panting on 6.0mph on the treadmill, barely able to hold on. And of course, some guy next to me is on 7.0 having a full conversation with his buddy. Way to make me feel like a winner. I know my height isn't the reason I'm slow (I'm slow 'cause I'm too lazy to run any faster, I don't like to breathe hard or exert myself), but it sure feels that way sometime!
