i feel stupid for even writing about this because it's such a girly-girl question. i'd actually rather talk about my period because at least that is health/medical and therefore not as trivial. but i'm gonna bring it up anyway.
what the hell do you people do with your hair?
my hair is well past my shoulders now, a length it hasn't been in over 15 years. i wear a visor mainly to help keep my headphones in, and it does a pretty good job of keeping sweat from dripping into my eyes and keeping my shorter layers outta my face. i put it in a ponytail when i run, but it's too damned thick to actually stay up and the swooshing back and forth annoys the crap outta me. i tried putting it in a bun but that slips out way too easily. one day, i had the misfortune of my hair elastic breaking mid workout. and that was just big piles of ick. hair and sweat should never mix.
and as for actual hair care? ever since i started working out on a regular basis again, my hair regime has gone to shit. it's a pain in the ass to wash and i now have to wash it every friggin' day. and everyone knows hair is at its best when it hasn't been washed in a day or so. at least mine is. i'm too lazy to blowdry it everyday so most of the time i walk around with a wet bun on my head. because my hair takes forever to dry. plus i don't want to stress my hair too much.
but i highly doubt that women who care enough to workout everyday don't put the same effort into their hair everyday too? am i the minority who has chosen laziness? or do you all go to work with a wet head of hair too?
the easiest solution would be to cut it. and on some days i consider hacking it all off myself. but DUDES! i've been trying to grow this mother out for 2 years now. and i actually would like my hair longer for when we do get married. but man, this walking around with a wet mop on my head all day has got. to. go.

I've used thin hair bands with grippers on them to keep my ponytail in place. I think Goody makes them. I found them at an expo, so I don't know how available they are, but they do the trick. Like you, my hair slips through regular hair bands and my hairstylist would kill me if I ever went back to rubber bands.
You sound a lot like me. I think I Had my hair down and out of a pony tail maybe 5 times tops this whole entire summer. It is hot, I am always on the go, either running to the gym or from the gym, and it's just easier to put it in a low ponytail.
I don't like to wash it everyday eigher, but I know I should after sweating like crazy. Those days that I don't workout, I don't wash it. plain and simple. But, I do like to keep my hair right at shoulder length or a bit shorter, since it is so thick and heavy in a pony.
ANd for the ponytail band... If I have one in my hair, I usually also have one on my wrist. Because if that one breaks, I am royally screwed and we don't need to see what my hair would look like down after being up all day. LOL
About this time of the year I just want to cut my hair but this year it needs to be long for my daughter's wedding so when I run, it gets so gross! I usually put it in a pony tail but I have to wear a visor to catch the sweat. When I race or do a long run, I braid it into two braids...either way, it still gets icky and sweaty!
Agreed on the goody ponytail holders with the grippers on them. I also have thick hair and I don't use the thin ones but they have these giant thick ones that I have found to be perfect and keep my hair in place. You can get them everywhere (target, walgreens).
As for everyday...I guess it depends when I run. I usually run in the evenings and so I shower and wash my hair then, and so i don't have to do anything in the morning when I go to work. My hair is straight though so I can get up and brush it and go...or I throw it in a pony tail and I'm off. I have bangs some sometimes those cause some problems but usually not too bad...and if they are horrible, it's all, "Hello barrettes!" If I do shower in the morning it's total wet head for me...and again since I have the thick hair, I'm wet head for many hours in the morning :)
I will use conditioner everyday but not shampoo, it's seemed to help. Since I 'wet' my hair daily, I blow dry it everyday. This is a must. Some days, I curl the ends, other days I don't...just depends on how much effort I feel like putting in.
I use barretts a lot... usually lower on my head with all my hair or with only the top pulled back off my face and the rest down. I would wear a pony tail everyday if I could, but I think barretts look a little more professional for the office.
