i also find i'm not eating just because i'm bored. or upset. or emotional. knowing you are going to have to write down everything you eat really makes you stop and think twice. because i'm also the queen of indulgence. i found a reason to indulge myself in a treat probably everyday. "i'm stressed." or "i'll workout later." (only to take a nap) or "i'll start my diet next week. i should get in all my treats now while i can." knowing i'll have to write my food down makes me stop, think, and realize i'm turning to food for comfort. and in that second my brain goes through a list of other things i could do to cope. last night, i kept a food binge at bay by watching videos of my nephew.
i know, it's only 2 days. but i'm already seeing the benefits. plus i got a cute, red pocket moleskine calendar to write everything down in. i am a geek for notebooks and theirs are by far the best ever.
i'm hoping it will also have enough room for me to keep track of my daily spending. if you have any good tips on budgeting software or techniques, please send them my way.
today i:
- woke up later than i wanted but still had time to eat breakfast in peace, curl my hair, and rock a purple eyeshadow look.
- found out i didn't get the job i interviewed for on monday, but realized i didn't really want it anyway.
- cut about an hour off a project at work by coming up with an ingenious shortcut!
- resisted the urge to nap by doing yoga and felt 10x more invigorated!
- took a candlelit shower.
- was reminded for the millionth time that my boyfriend is the best.
- finally figured out how to purl!!!!!!

Those moleskin journals are great. I love journals.
I totally inhale my food too, if I'm not watching!! I learned it from my dad, who was one of 10 children. I work on it daily but still can not control it while eating popcorn. I am the messiest popcorn eater I know and look like a massacred corn factory when I'm done eating it.
If you're interested in tracking calories, or nutrients in food, a great free site I use is www.sparkpeople.com. They made the site just to help people track food, exercise, etc. I really like it.
For budgeting, I just use Microsoft Excel. I keep stuff in categories like "household," "Health" which includes Dr. visits, gym membership, etc. I tried Microsoft Money and stuff like that, but it's easier for me in excel to make formulas, so I can put in how much we make, and the bills, and then if those bills change the formulas tell me if I need to adjust my budget.
If I don't spend money in a category, I have a different spreadsheet for savings, and I put that money from checking to savings at the end of the month and add it to the spreadsheet.
This really works for me, so it's not like I have "$x.xx" total in savings, I have "$250 in home repairs" and "$150 in dr. bills" and that adds up to my total.
This actually helps because I don't have to think twice when I call someone, like my heating and air guy (yesterday) or Ed (hubby) and I are sick and have to go to the Dr. and get medicine (last month--$200!). I just pull the money I've set aside and it doesn't mess up anything else.
If I get a chance, I'll post a link to a sample of what I use, if it would help. I've been doing it since 2001 when we started our quest to get out of debt. Worked great for us!
OK, enough wall of text! :) Sounds like you're doing great!
Also? I totally just saw that you commented on my journal. I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner! I need blogger to tell me when I get a comment, I'm a slacker. :)
