arms and legs

my delinquent ass got to the track to join the group today. and boy am i glad i did! not only did they miss me (yeah!), but they made me run faster than i normally do. how do they do that?! we ran 1.75 miles in 18:56 which is a shade faster than 11 minute miles. and here i've been barely slogging along at 12+ minute miles by myself. go team!

i carried my runner's high to the pool where i swam for 55 minutes. at the end of one lap, as i caught my breath a dude approached me and said, "you've been swimming forever!" oh dude, you just made my day. i'm digging my stroke lately. it feels natural and fluid and my laps are getting easier and easier. i wish there was a fool proof way to count my laps. my watch manual says it's only water resistant if you press the buttons out of the water, so i really would have to stop at every lap or 2 to press the lap button. plus honestly, i am so into swimming i don't even remember to count. i've seen a little clicker that you wear on your finger to count laps. how do you keep track of laps?

my lessons on wednesday are turning into a group class. and i'm cool with that. hopefully there are people better than me. i find it makes me swim better. it makes me want to do better. we shall see tomorrow. if i can even move my arms tomorrow...

great job on the run and the swim...counting laps? I break my total laps down into groups of ten and then count by 2. It usually works for me and if I get confused I can look at my watch since I know approximately how long it should be taking. Re: going private. Not sure who else is going private...I've been toying with the idea for a while, actually. I may write more about it today...

YOU ARE DING AWESOME!!!

I ran with a group before & it made me go faster & longer. it was really a runnign 101 class. seriously.

BUT I need to run with people, liek swimming, it makes you better when you're with people who are better---I should apply this to myself, I've done it for my son with Hockey since he was 4 (he turned 16 yesterday, the other one turned 4).
I'll definately be running with a group on Thursday. Thanks for the reminder of how good it does feel

I also suck at counting. It sounds lame, but I try and visualize counting on my fingers. So if I'm on my 3rd lap, I'll think about my middle finger on my left hand. For the 9th lap, I think about my right ring finger. And so on. And maybe you could press that lap button for every 10 laps to keep track of the total??

Nice job. I have no easy way to count laps either. I try to measure in sets of 100's or 50's and keep track of how many of those I do...

Wow- 55 minutes IS forever. :O You are incredible.

My watch is waterproof so I lap it every lap. But I'm not doing fancy shmancy flip turns so it's not a problem. :P

Great job on your running too, speedster!!

Nice job on the run... and then heading to the pool! I have a hard time counting laps as well. usually I find it easier if I go to the pool with a workout set in mind. (ie. 4x50M warmup, 8x75M, and then 4x50M cool down)... it's easier for me to remember where I am at. When I don't have a workout set in mind, it's easier for me to keep track of meters rather than "laps". That's just me though.

OK I am going to ask you the same thing Ali asked me, except I will insert swimming for elliptical.

HOW THE HELL DO YOU SWIM FOR AN HOUR!!!!!!!!

GREAT job!!

Way to run and swim. Group training sounds so enticing when you write about it. But I'm just too timid (read: lazy) to get into a new group. How lame am I?

It's incredible when you not only pass the pain threshold in swimming, but reach that next plateau of digging your stroke. I'm partial to swimming, and I'm glad you're getting into it. Fifty minutes is awesome!

nice job with the running...having running partners definitely increases my speed and distance too.

and if you do figure out a good lap counter, let me know. i usually try to count in my head but after so many, i give up or just lose count. there's got to be a good method somewhere. google here i come.
